Our Story

KRW's founders are credited with being among the first pioneers of modern executive development. KRW created the first 360 tool in the late 1970s, and refined the premier senior executive development process by the early 1990s.

In 2005, we discovered the deepest pillars of leadership success, described then as Moral Intelligence, and followed this with a 7-year break-through study in Return on Character. As a result, we can measure, benchmark, and build leaders of strong character reputation who deliver superior results.

We have proven that strong-character leaders are not just nice to have, but are the difference that makes the difference in capturing increased value and lowering risk.

Randi Birk, Psy.D., helps Fortune 500 clients improve individual and team effectiveness and create strategies for developing emerging talent.

Experience

Randi has over twenty years of experience in executive development, having worked with a wide range of clients and industries. She views coaching as an active partnership with her clients. Randi takes a very active approach, providing real-time feedback, posing thought-provoking questions, and providing the tools and support needed to promote genuine, long-lasting change.

Nancy Bologna, PhD

Nancy Bologna, PhD

PROFESSIONAL Expertise

Though trained as a clinical psychologist, Nancy has had the unique opportunity to work as a senior leader in corporate settings, so her strong clinical, academic, and measurement background is very business-relevant, applied, and tailored to the business demands at hand. Currently, she is conducting informal research on the challenges that CEOs face in effectively leveraging their most important asset—their people. She is studying CEO leadership dimensions that are directly correlated to improved profitability and helping CEOs improve those leadership qualities that actually impact their bottom line and profitability.

“‘Pent-up’ profit, as much as 30 cents on every dollar generated by a company or corporation, is linked to CEOs’ leadership style, decision making, and ability to leverage the company’s human capital to drive business strategies and outcomes. I help the CEO optimize his or her leadership skills and decisions to more effectively execute business objectives and results.”

Experience

Early in her professional career, Nancy practiced as a clinical psychologist in large, multi-specialty clinics but was soon attracted to helping top leaders more effectively apply their leadership skills to drive profitability and business results. She has previously worked as an executive development consultant with KRW International and was then recruited to Best Buy Company, Inc. in 1999 as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources. During her decade at Best Buy, she served as a senior officer in strategic alliances, new business development, entertainment strategy, and enterprise innovation capabilities. She has now returned to KRW to work with CEOs in leveraging their leadership styles to promote healthy and profitable companies.

Nancy has also served as an adjunct professor of psychology, teaching both undergraduate- and graduate-level courses and has been active in several educational initiatives in Minneapolis.

Clients

This year, we are really very, very good in delivering a huge amount of things and initiatives that helped the bottom line greatly, and I mean a multimillion-dollar impact on the business. I think an effective leader makes an effective organization. My organization is much more confident and comfortable and the partnership between finance and my organization is so much better, and I attribute that to a better leadership style.

Managing Director, Ph.D.,

Fortune 100 Financial Services Company

One of the benefits of the approach is that it doesn’t look for a quick solution. It looks for a path for continued improvement, which for me is much more practical and sustainable….There aren’t that many people who could do this. It’s a great service.

CEO,

Global Marketing and Technology Agency (2014 Best Places to Work) *Ad Age

There would be no better way for me to spend my time than on this process, so I received better return for my time than I could have with anything else.

Managing Director,

Global Investment Banking, Securities, and Investment Management Firm

I think it’s been a very intensive, effective, and I would say empathetic process. …It’s far exceeded my expectations. . . . The whole concept of aligning principles, values, beliefs, and behavior was quite psychologically freeing…I think the KRW training has been intensive and personal, both, in a way that company training just can’t be. . . . [My consultant’s] knowledge, insight, empathy, and experience, I found to be invaluable.

VP Diversity, Culture, and Inclusion,

Diversified Insurance Provider with 7,000 employees

The process has helped me engineer some pretty substantial changes in how I think and how I operate. . . all the way at the philosophical level -- how I think about my work and my role and how that cascades into action. . . . The only assets we have are people, so if our senior people are more productive, the returns on productivity are extremely high….This process isn’t about marginal improvement; it’s about a pretty substantial inflection in operating. Because it aims high, it achieves high goals.

Chairman and CEO,

$1B revenue Global Professional Services Firm

I would say that the experience with KRW was incredibly positive and transformative…I’m very good at delivering bottom-line business results but I was highly dysfunctional in our business culture, and it would have cost a lot of money to replace me. So in the end, it helped them retain a high-value employee and take advantage of that employee’s contribution. . . . The project I was working on when this KRW process began—and I believe would have failed without it—generated $30 million dollars last year, so,…without the KRW process, [my company] would have had $30 million dollars lower of PTI last year.

Senior VP Strategy and Planning,

Fortune 100 Financial Services Company

I think it definitely contributed to our ability to grow 40 percent in this office this past year…I’d give it a 10 [for return on investment]. This is one where, when you call, I take the call right away…. It’s the best I’ve had. I strongly, strongly endorse the company and I’ve learned a lot from it.

President and CEO,

Global Digital Brand Agency

I would say this was much more personal and much more logical…in terms of its value as a personal instrument of self-assessment, it made me stronger professionally. So the balance and completeness was astonishing. I didn’t expect that.

Associate Dean for Human Resources,

Ivy League University

I thought it was a good process that I benefited from. . . . It’s made for a more cohesive team of direct reports who are more open with me and more collaborative.

President and CEO,

Division of Global Information Technology firm

I’m immensely more effective, both in my ability to partner with my peers and with my ability to manage my teams in a more constructive way.…I told my boss that I owe [my company] a year of my life for this!

Senior VP, Enterprise Customer Management,

Fortune 100 Financial Services Company

It’s been fabulous—life altering, actually. My biggest thing was that you don’t know what you don’t know until you go through something like that…feedback from senior leadership across [my company] about me is incredibly useful to me. You’d think I’d be able to get that by myself from my company but I can’t, so that’s incredibly useful.

Senior VP Global Information,

Fortune 100 Financial Services Company

The data not only pointed me in the direction of the refinement that I needed to make, but also gave me a good understanding of what my strengths were and how to really leverage them consciously in addition to subconsciously. . . . It’s superior to anything I’ve been involved with.

Director of Marketing,

Multi-National Insurance provider

[My consultants] were willing to listen. They just didn’t come in and tell me what other people said was working and what wasn’t. They took a holistic approach at how best to develop me as a leader within this organization.

Senior VP,

Global IT Services with more than 50,000 employees
